Hi guys n girls, i'm just wondering how i get more people looking at my flickr pics?

i've had the page for a while now and although i've only got around 40 photo's on there just now, and admittedly, not the most interesting subjects, i could litterally cound the views on my hands, most of them have never been viewed at all.

is there some settings in there somewhere to make them 'public' etc? i think my most viewed pic has a massive 4 views! lol

here's the page, is it just boring pics? or am i doing something wrong? :(

click here to go to my flickr page

thanks

Alan

Yes you can make your pics 'public' but I can see them already I guess you have that set. You can also make them searchable outside of Flickr so people searching for say "Chinook pics" in Google might come across yours.

On the few pics I clicked on, none were added to groups. Search out some relevant groups and add them there also, and take the time to view and comment on other peoples pics in those groups.

If you see someone that has a few pics you like, consider adding them as a contact, they may in turn add you as a contact.

Tag your photos, spam lots of groups and go round adding other peoples photos and commenting. I wouldn't be too worried about view figures personally! ;)

As advised above plus if you want lots of views you need more images, i get between 300 - 1500 views a day, the higher figures follow new uploads, but this comes of just short of 2000 well tagged and shared images, you can also share them via twitter and FB if you use those that brings in more people.

But to be honest the number of views you get are pointless, what i find more important is finding other togs, who's work i like and following them, they may then follow me and give comments/feedback on my images, this is much more valuable than just the views.

Post them on forums like this one etc, or Facebook/Twitter I usually let people know when I have new images.

To get views the images have to be interesting, for example your helicopter shots are going to have much wider interest than kids/bump etc and people have to be able to find them, by tagging images and giving them a relevant title.

Tagging is crucial, uploading to groups helps.
You need think carefully what people might be searching for and use those terms - look at how others have tagged theirs, but don't abuse as some do by adding dozens of largely inappropriate words.

I detest all that reciprocal false praise stuff.
Some people are shocked if I offer even the gentlest critique on there but I do it anyway!

Yeah, tagging, inserting into groups, looking for flickr posting whores and adding them to your friends, pointlessly commenting on others shots 24 hours a day.... etc etc

Think of it like this, its the photographic equivalent of Farmville and equally about as likely to advance your commercial photography.

Gotta dash, I have to collect the eggs from my cows and write some more pointless drivel on a pile of bland photos ;-)

You get out what you put in.. have a read of this discussion on the Self-Taught Photographers Flickr group. It covers your question.

Thanks everyone, i've taken on what you've said and its made a huge difference in just one day (although most of that was probably you lot looking at the link above! lol)

and its not that i want loads of views on each picture for bragging rights etc, not that at all, its more that i take pictures because they interest me so hope they will interest others also, thats all

thanks again everyone!

Just had a browse through liking the close up of the child these are the sort of photos I'm working towards that and pets :-)

If you want LOADS of views, post to every 'post one, vote for/view/comment on 3/4/5/600 others' group! Seriously, that will increase your views a thousand-fold just over night. Of course, you will have to start adding the dumb little 'award' in the comment section to others' contributions, but the good news is, you only have to C&P the text rather than having to actually say anything! :D

I got into the whole get as many views as possible game last year! I posted in the award groups, cross posted on forums, commented on every photo going. It soon got boring and is of course totally pointless!

I now enjoy looking through the photos of contacts whose shots I actually appreciate and getting inspiration / learning from what they've posted so I can improve my own shots.

I also get a lot more comments and constructive criticism and a lot less views these days! Funny that.

I prefer being involved in a few forums and sharing the photos I take with other enthusiasts and learning from them how I can improve my stuff :)
