Yes
I need a lens hood for my 70-300 IS Canon lens, the price of the genuine Canon lens hoods seems crazy for a bit of plastic, ive just bought a genuine Canon lens hood for my 17-85 IS lens which was quite expensive for what they are but its not a patch on the price of the 70-300 IS hood which is around £34.

I was looking on 7dayshop and came across these Marumi hoods which seem to be very cheap at just £10.29 delivered, have any Canon users on here used them and whats your opinion ? Obviously i don`t want glare on the lens which you may get from the cheap after market ones you see on ebay that have a shiny plastic inside and you hear some cheaper ones cause vignetting.

I bought a Marumi one for my 17-55 IS from Hong Hong, It was a little stiff to remove at first... but as it rarely comes off that is fine.

I bought one for my old 18-55 lens a while ago and while it was shallow it was fine and had a dull / matt finish on the inside of the hood so deeper ones should be fine.

Check the description to see if it describes the inside as a matt finish.

There is a "shop" on e-bay, who are based in wales I seem to remember, who was selling various lens hoods and they listed 2 different models - the cheap nasty one with a standard plastic interior and a better quality one with a matt finish inside and they were only a couple of quid dearer - might be worth a good look

You may even find a genuine Canon one for a good price

IIRC Marumi are actually a subsiduary company on Canon (or something similar) with their hoods being exactly the same as Canon originals except for branding

they have a license to the patents i think for the shape & size, thats the way i understood it.

I have a Marumi hood on my 70-300, the Canon price for a piece of plastic is just outrageous.

The hood works perfectly, only small problem is it fits very snuggly and you have to be very careful taking it on and off not to tweak the AF motor, a problem which I assume would also affect a Canon hood.

It even has a pretty descrete logo on it as well :D

My understanding too. Marumi hoods are licensed by Canon (I believe). I've bought a few when the equivalent Canon hoods have been unavailable or stupidly expensive, and I can't tell any difference in quality.
