How do these look?

Hey could do with some c&c on these two.

These are a couple of the pictures from a shoot I did with my Mum and Dad for my Mum's birthday.

Do they look better before or after in your opinion?

Before -definitely! All they really need is a bit of a sharpen - don't go mad with the processing.

Shame about the busy background - try blurring it a bit?

I had a little play with these and got this result:

and

All I did was auto-levels in Photoshop, then used the blur tool to smudge the background and then used the dodgy tool to bring out the shadows slighly then finally did a simple sharpen.

I thought they looked over processed aswell, just thought i'd see what other people thought before I start processing the rest. I didn't want to do the whole batch and then find out I'd done it wrong.

Thanks for the tips I'll play a little before I settle into getting the rest done.

The befores do tend to look better especially the skin tones though the tweaking does add contrast to the mans jumper.
The first may be slightly soft in focus and tone but does look natural.
I would probably crop some of the top to remove some of the tree.
