Yes
just wondering if anyone has any good/special techniques for carrying a large lens setup attached to a tripod. i sling the whole thing over my shoulder when walking and it's not too troublesome but does start to ache after a while. am i just going to have to put up with this or is there an easier way which i am missing to carry it while walking?

Can`t see any other easier way to be honest. I carry mine like that if it is set up,if not it goes in my new bag.

Top Tip........Leave one leg extended for those unexpected photograph opportunities that always arise when least expected, you at least have a monopod type support.........

With the tripod set up, I put my shoulder under the top plate and lift, so one leg is in front, one behind and one to the side. No use if you have a centre column.

I also put a spare padded divider from an old camera bag through the loop on my backpack strap to help cushion the leg from digging in.

If you have a Gitzo GT3531 / GT5531 or similar you need to either buy or make your own locking plate to secure the base plate LINK

Doesn't one have a trusty bearer in their employ for these tiresome manual handling duties ?

they'd only carry it the same way though!

Definate Plus One on these plates.
Has not happened to me but one of my friends lost his 600mm plus body when the top of his tripod fell off !
Seems a lot for a metal plate though (but its only money)
You could also try this from Art Morris

Certainly saves your shoulder and comes in other colours, well black anyway.
Have bought from him before not had to pay extra on delivery, don't know if that's normal though.

I find the legwarmers on my Manfrotto cushion the carry a treat!
I usually have the strap attached to my camera and shove it round my neck for added security though!

I generally put my camera back in it's bag and just carry the legs extended. It kills my dodgy back if I leave it on the tripod

This thread reminds me... I was going to machine a batch of those plates, might have to do that now I can get in my workshop again

Compared to the cost of the lens it isn't ... ;), plus low volume special stuff is never going to be cheap.

Agree with that Martyn.
Think mine came out about £90 but cannot remember exactly.
If "Hairyduck" can make some would be interested in price.
