how do you clean the front element of your big lenses?

Curious, i was using a lenspen but i found it smudges it rather than cleans it, anyone got any suggestions to clean the front element of the big canon L lenses that won't damage them? i didn't know if i could just use glasses cleaner, or whether that would cause harm to the lens itself
 
I circumnavigate this issue by fitting a Nikon NC Filter as soon as i buy a lens although this is more for protetion than keeping them clean...
Not much help but might be worth a punt once she's cleaned :)

That would be great but :beer: somehow i don't think you can fit a filter on the big white canon lenses like the 800mm f5.6 L... :D
 
The big primes use drop in filters. I found most of them had protective front elements that were pretty easy to clean with a rocket blower, lens pen and lens brush combination. The hood being on them probably stopped a lot of dirt. I've heard of people using damp ear buds or microfibre cloths. If it is mud I wouldn't use a cloth as you can risk smearing and scratching.
 
I get my wife to do mine....... but am guessing thats not what you mean :)


canon 400 2.8 is
Mostly rocket blower and micro cloth.. sometimes a good clean with jessops lens cleaner and jessops lens tissue followed my micro cloth.. its easy to forget about the drop in filter.. does get manky though...
 
i use w5 GLASSES wipes from lidl about £1.49 for a box of 50 hth mike.
 
Carefully, with micro cloth.
