How do you store your kit?

I seem to have a bag fetish - 5 bags stuffed into a cupboard with the biggest bag [Lowepro Stealth 400] storing most of my kit. I have a mini trekker I don't use; a think tank disguise 40 I bought for hols; a Lowepro Nova 180 which is now a bit too small for my kit having upgraded & a small pouch thing that is definately too small for anything I have.

So, I'm thinking of storing lenses in lens cases and condensing down to two bags: large bag for quite a bit of kit and a smallish one for body & two lenses. I really want to go the Billingham route - 207 & 307 look great, anyone got one?

Interested to know how you store your kit as it grows.
 
Mostly in two Crumpler bags, great big rucksack (Farmers Double)and smaller shoulder bag (Pretty Boy XXL). Loads of other stuff in a few smaller shoulder type bags of various make and model.

Very rarely use the rucksack and just serves as a safe haven for my gear, so think lens cases would be bit of a waste of money to me although it sounds like a nice idea and much more orderly.

Have to disagree on those Billingham bags though, they look nice to some people, but much prefer the more modern styles, don't seem that practical and materials have come on a long way since they were designed.
Not good for your back either carrying weight on one shoulder and damn uncomfortable too, keep meaning to use my rucksack more and have taken to just wrapping the camera in a waterproof and sticking it in my everyday backpack rather than use the shoulder bag

Compare it to my old sheepskin coat, yes it was warm, but bloody heavy and useless in the rain, give me a nice modern fleece anyday

My most used kit lives in a LowePro Mini Trekker, ready for me to grab from the concealed shelf at a moment's notice (if necessary). I know that would make it easy for a thief to nick in one fell swoop but he/she would need to know where it was (it's NOT in plain view) and move a couple of things to get it away silently and I'm a light sleeper!

Less used kit is dotted around in cupboards and bags, most of it in places I can remember!
 
Bodies, lenses and Custom Bracket go into the Think Tank UD40 and Tenba Messenger bags though I'm considering replacing the Tenba with a UD50/60. Depending on what I'm shooting, any overflow go into the Lowepro backpack which remains at home.

I know sort of what you mean Rich by that but the new bags use a modern material that's harder wearing [FibreNyte] than anything else out there and the quality is the best without question. Have a look at the 07 series, expensive but you get what you pay for. The jury's out on my UD40, no real reason why but bags are a bit like that, very personal.
 
Billinghams look great but are very uncomfortable, i.e., no weight distribution.

I have a couple of Billinghams. The 335 is as you describe - I really like it but not for carrying. Also have a Hadley Pro for when I only want a body and couple of lenses - that feels much better. Also use it as a day bag by taking out the padded liner.
 
Everything is stored in a Lowepro Flipside 400 AW, when out shooting I either take that, the Flipside 200 or Stealth Reporter D300 AW depending on what I'm doing.
 
mostly scattered about in my attick have a massive work desk and they sit on there. if storing i can get all my kit into a stealth 400.
depending on what i do i have a flipside 300 for the odd landscape trip and holiday. I do want a holster type bag to fit a gripped body and just one lens and maybe flash.
 
all on a shelf in my office, out of the way of the cat and the missus with the hoover. Bags live in the bottom of the airing cupboard with mr tripod and miss monopod.

Filters, cables and batteries live in my top drawer which I compartmentalised with an Ikea drawer compartmentaliserborg or whatever its called.

It means everything is kept nice and dry and has air circulating round it, and if the bag gets wet it gets dried slowly and carefully and is absolutely bone dry for the next outing and its a good routine, make bag up with what you need each time. Gives me an opportunity to check my kit before I go out.
 
The camera sits on the bed next to me most of the time.

The lenses are in an open flight case next to the bed, the flashes etc are in their own hard case.

I don't like keeping lenses sealed and out of natural light, if they're open to the air and light it might mean they get a little dusty, but at least theres no chance of fungus taking hold.
 
 
In my safe, always wiped down with a microfibre cloth then stored away.

Where I live I won't take even a minute chance.
 
Lowepro Vertex 100aw stores ALL my gear !
the handle is getting a little stretched now, if that fails i'm buggered i don't fancy paying another 90 quid !
 
I use a big Tamrac adventure 10 to store everything and for when i need to carry it all, mostly thought i just stick what ever i`ll need in to my slingshot 100 when ever im out and about.

Is this the modern day equivalent of sleeping with a gun under the pillow? At least if you 'shoot' someone you wouldn't end up with a court case!

Unfortunately, although I had good intentions of leaving my kit (with a UV filter on, to keep the dust off the element) end up in a glass fronted cabinet (to discourage fungus), it hasn't come to fruition. The kit just sits in the last backpack that I used it in.

Lowepro Magnum AW bag... and then three other bags for going out depending on what im doing and what kit im taking... and ofter if im working out the car I just take the magnum... I have huge issues with bags... been through loads but still often use my very first bag... A Lowepro orion treker which I've had for years and its been all over the world! I've just bought a kata 3n1 3 so going to try it out on a trip to NYC in April... but in the house im thinking I wish i'd gone for the 3n1 2 rather than the 3 which is huge... but... we will see... Got a great CSS bag for just the camera and a lens... and had many others...

I dont think i'll ever get my ideal travel bag... as I sort of want too much out of it... the Kata seems the better choice at the moment! Lowepro bags dont offer what I want out a rucsac at the moment!

No the guns in the bedside cabinet lol.. well my old paint ball gun, we aren't allowed real ones *sniff*
 
Lowepro slingshot 302AW with all my gear in. A little crumpler jobbie for travelling light (camera, 18-50, flash and batteries etc). A knackered old canon bag with my OM-2SP and lenses and my EOS 650 sat on the shelf!
