How do you upload downsized jpeg images to the web without stripping meta data? Or does downsizing automatically remove file info?
I should know the answer but I don't.
Would be grateful to anyone who can tell me how.

You can prepare for web in PS for example and then replace the meta data back in Bridge if you want.

How are you resizing the images - which software?

In Photoshop (& Elements) If you 'save for web' then this will strip exif data.

If you just resize the image then save this will retain EXIF.

Similarly in Lightroom when you export you can instruct the software whether to strip the EXIF / IPTC data or not.

Thanks Jim. :)

OK, I have CS3 + Bridge. But haven't had a lot to do with Bridge, although I have recently discovered how useful a program it is.

OK, so after preparing the file in PS, do you actually have to enter all the data manually or can Bridge do it automatically?

Hi Dave, I have tried "Save As" but the data still gets stripped.
That may not be the case if you don't downsize. But I will try what you say again and email it to myself to test it.

Email it to yourself??
Just right click the saved image and look at the properties
Yes Trev, I know I can do that.

what seemed to be happening is that the meta data wasn't surviving the upload or email action.

Anyway, I did the "Save As" and the info was embedded when it left my pc to Photobucket, so let's see if if the meta data has survived the transition.

Please feel free to replace this with a fresh/resized image and remove this text :)

OK, so obviously meta data does not survive the transit to Photobucket.

I will now email the same fiule to myself (per Yahoo.com) and see if the meta data survives the trip.

I just emailed it to myself per yahoo and the exif is still intact.

But I am still completely in the dark as to how exif data from the file I have posted above can be read. :bang::bang::bang:

Would someone please tell me how to do it? The only software I have is CS3, or CS4 on my laptop.

Thanks all for your comments.

I have finally worked it out!

If anyone else has the same question, then I shall be happy to share the procedure.

Firefox also has a pluggin that reads exif, or uploading to flickr can read exif, lots of ways, but Mark, share the way you just found, then we all know
Hi Yvonne - OK, my method assumes you have Photoshop CS3/4 Bridge or other software capable of reading exif data.

1. Right click on image.

2. "View Image info"

3. "Save As"

4. Save .JPG file to folder.

5. Drag .JPG file into CS3/4 Bridge and all the camera settings are there.

Hi Dave, thanks - right or wrong I've gone with Opanda that works OK.
