How does one choose lens setups for both crop and FF on a budget?

Hi all,

Just wondering about how people with both crop and ff bodies choose their lenses.

I have acquired a 1DS (classic) relatively recently and my setup looks as follows:

1DS
60D

Tokina 11-16
Tamron 17-50
Canon 50 1.8
Canon 200 2.8

The Tokina works at 16mm on FF, and the Tamron is of course for crop only.

I'm pondering whether it would be a good idea for me to swap my Tokina for a Canon 17-40 (I think they value approximately the same used). I would lose the constant 2.8 from the Tokina but I'm trying to realise whether it would be a good choice. I would then probably sell the Tamron as well - which would leave my bank balance healthier than before!

Is this a good choice or am I missing something here? (In the ideal world I might buy a Canon 16-35 2.8 but then again that would be a dream world.)

Of course I don't expect anyone here to give me a definitive answer but any advice would be useful to me so I know my options!

i thought you were selling the 1DS

that aside - yes it would be a good idea to standardise all your lenses on EF mount - but i'd be inclined to do it gradually through natural wastage rather than selling a lot of stuff off and making a loss (unless you sell it to me of course, thats different mwahhhaaa ha)

Yes I was going to but similar to the point you made I realised I would be better off keeping it! And also as I said in my original post, I potentially could end up with more money if I were to sell up the Tamron and Tokina.
