How does the canon 350d compare to the nikon 360?

How does the canon 350d compare to the nikon 360?

I had a nikon d60, but had to sell it over a year ago as needed the money

Now I am in a position to own a camera again, I was looking for another D60 as I was very comfortable and happy with the camera but they're harder to find at a reasonable price now they are not being made anymore

I've seen a Canon 350d near me, with the standard 18-55 with it

How does it compare to the D60? It will be better than the cheap compact I've been using since my D60 went, that I know.. .but how much of a step down if any will it be from the D60?

I know nothing about canon, is this body motorised? or like the Nikon will I need AF-S lenses?

In truth they are pretty similar cameras, I doubt the average user shooting and printing up to 8x10 would be able to tell the prints from either apart.

Will I still be able to buy old canon lenses, and they will still work with autofocus on then camera?

As with the Nikon D60 I had to buy the AF-S motorised lenses, as the D60 body was not motorised, so I could not buy the cheaper / older lenses

Any Canon autofocus lens (designated as EOS, EF or EF-S) will work on the 350D, even EF lenses made in the 80's and 90's for film cameras.

Most other brand AF lenses for Canon EF (like Sigma, Tamron, Tokina) made since the 80s will also work, with the exception of some early Sigma lenses that were reverse engineered (and so not totally compatible to Canon AF) which won't work properly (but as most were from the 80s they are pretty rare now).

Yes, there are huge amounts of second hand compatible lenses for Canon, look at the back of AP, or even the forum classifieds and you'll see how popular Canon second hand gear is.

no, the output is so similar, I'd doubt you would notice much difference until very large sizes. The 350D is 8MP, the D60 is 10MP, it's a pretty negligible difference.

If the 350D has a weakness, it would be the original 18-55 kit lens was not as good as the Nikon equivalent, however you can get the vastly improved Canon 18-55 IS kit lens for £40-£50 and sell the older kit lens for £20-£25.
