How is 5d grip different to xxd grip?

Just wondering as the battery is the same how come the 5d grip is a differen not to the xxD series. Or would they actually work on either?
 
The 5D body is 6mm wider than the 20/30/40/50D bodies so the grip needs to match.

Cheers. So the question is did they need the extra 6mm because if they sensor or did canon want a premium price on the grip?

it's a different camera with different button layout and design and construction, and a significantly bigger sensor...

Got it in one. Does the position of the circuitry pins change at all? If I had one of each I'd compare them for you but I've only got a 5D aftermarket grip which works plenty fine and cost a fraction of Mrs Canon's prices.
