How long before the sweet price?

Hi,

What with all the talk of 1Dx, 5D3, 7D2 etc when do you think a camera reaches "that" price where its only a hundred so more than its ever going to be?

For instance I looked up 3camels for the 7D and saw that it was full price for the first 5-6 months then dropped sharply to about £1250, which is about £150 more than it is now, so for the £150 you'd have had the camera for over a year and a half making the "rental" come out at less than a tenner a month - not bad rates :)

Then factor in the difference between the price you paid and its resale value and your "rental" is more like £25/month.......still cheaper than having kids though.

Definatly right about the kids!!

No guesses as to how long though?
 
you'd have to factor in market share and the time it takes for competitor models to be released and floated on the market. depreciation is inevitable as is having to maintain your gear but surely mp/AF issues aside, if the one set up you had took great pictures (the wife) and was a joy to use, would you really be perusing the market for a newer (younger) model?
 
Have camera prices been affected by the Japan earthquake issues like hard drives have been?

I would have thought that most high end electronic components have been to some degree. I have been looking at getting one when my annual bonus comes in and they are on average £150 more than 9 months ago.
