How Many Have You Got?

Yes
i was tidying up my external hard drives and laptop drives etc.. last night and deleted any images that i definately don't think i'll want to keep.

when i transferred everything over, i had 14,560 images on my laptop. if i'd have made a guess before i started to tidy up i'd have probably gone for maybe 5,000 or so.

Amongst the 14,560 i've got a folder called 'Pics for Frames'.. which are the ones i feel worthy of printing / framing.... that folder contains...... 21 images :bonk:

So, how many images have you got on your machines? I can feel a few MASSIVE numbers coming on here.

I did the same last week and it came to over 14000. I deleted all the crap and duplicates (of which there were many!) and I now have 3212 in left Light room, and currently have 59 in the "good" folder that Ive re-edited and will print or show.
I have about 1000 in LR that Im keeping but will not print or show unless needed as they are specific things like gigs and the rest are family/personal shots or ones I havent got round to re-editing yet.

Digital alone (last four years) after throw away shots ...about 100Gig of raws 300gig of tiffs ..that’s several thou, not sure if its over ten thou.. includes personal stuff.

Keepers and sellers folder (folders) about 800. ...half of which are main sellers, the other half more my taste but still sellers.

:woot: :D

...Someone will be along shortly to put me in my merge place. ;)

I feel embarrassed now - Lightroom is currently showing somewhere over 143,000 currently in library

Think at the last count I have about 20K image files of varying types, there's probably a shed load of junk & duplicates but I'm loathed to start deleting "just in case" I accidentally wipe something out.

My main source is a portable HDD which is backed up to 2 seperate external 1TB HDDs, those drives contain pretty much every digital picture I've taken since 1999!

Edit:..... Make that 40K+ (I checked last night)

you can imagine it can't you... friends round for dinner... the evening winds down... 'would you like to come and have a look at a slide show of my images... won't take long'

I have about 3000 photos, since deleting some and wishing I hadn't (they weren't great, but it's nice to have them as memories at times!) I now keep all but the misses/very OOF/so exposed you can't see what it is etc. Basically if you can see what I was photographing, it stays :)

I understand Lightroom starts to slow down with libraries over about 20,000. It's recommended that you start new ones. My last one had got up to about 30,000 and it definitely seemed to run slower than my new one.

Hmm.. don't know exactly. Somewhere in the region of several hundred gb of probably 80% jpgs.

Might tally up quite how many total later... my gut feeling would be somewhere in the region of 200-250k.

Abobe and others report that number of files in a catalog doesn't cause an issue, but that remaining HDD and processor/RAM may do.

I have kept it together on purpose but may at some point split some older stuff off and archive

Work and home stuff kept separate, so around 20K at work, 60K at home in lightroom. I've tidied up my online libraries from 20K to 9.5k images on pbase, but I've got those archived away as well, plus earlier jpg's etc.

Libraries or catalogs?

60k - 70k images in Lightroom from the last few years, and I thought the same about Lightroom getting slower. Currently archiving them off by year, so see if that improves things.

Got two old drives that I need to archive - probably got a fair few thousand on those, although there are a lot of TIFFs on there also - probably got 20,000 on there.

Got a main drive with 2009/2010 images on that's around 65K

I have about 5000 on my pc which are also duplicated on two external drives and also backed up on discs.

Ive got 5006 for around 6 months of shooting. I know some need to be deleted though because they are absolute tosh, id guess about 5000 of them.... :D Having a real downer on my photos atm, simply not good enough :(

3215 RAW files since 2009, possibly another 2000 since 2003, loads of film negatives from the 90's

all of which gets backed up onto my stack of external HDD's and my server

I lost some pics from 2004 when I forgot to back up and my computer crashed :(

now I back up all the time

:)

surprised at how little everyone shoots o_0

I don't even gun it much...

+1. BACK YOUR STUFF UP! RIGHT NOW!

the amounts you guys are talking about it'll all fit on a few dvds...no excuses. hard drives are cheap these days :)

I just had a quick look and just over 43000 files and +400GB on an external drive

Can't remember how many I have total but just after new year I shifted all of 2010s images onto external drives and that was just over 11,000.
I started making a 'faves of 2010' to post online and I very quickly whittled 11,000 down to 30.

Blimey Hugh, thought I was bad with 46,000. I really must have a tidy up.

Phew.....
I don't delete any once on the computer.
But was surprised at the weekend when I backed up ~47k, coming to >650GB!
At least I am not alone!

Hi, I have 2 externl drive with thousands of photograph I will, in all liklihood, never look at.

What I need to do is sort out decent ones and print them.

Then I need to converty the RAW files to JPEG.

ive got 18,000 in photocart online so without checking i guess i must have about 3 or 4 times that many in lightroom. that wont take in to account old personal photos going back to 2003 that arent worth faffing with etc.

I hope you guys have sufficient backup on more than one media.

I think so.

Main HD drive stores all the images in the LR library which is backed up onto another internal HD.
2 external HD's keep backups of all the images and also are sent to a networked server.

The only times I'd be screwed is if we had a house fire and I couldnt rescue one of the disks, but I dont have an off site location to store one at the moment.
