How many photos on DVD

I dont know if this is on the right forum? I want to start putting all of my Photos that are in JPG on to DVD+R 16X 4.7GB disc can any one tell me how many this disc will take.I have aprox 3.600 photos.

DVD capacity = 4.7 * 1024MB = 4812 MB

1 photo ~ 8MB (less if cropped or saved at reduced quality)

Number of photos which will fit on DVD = 4812/8 = 601 (approximately)
 
Some recent work showed the DVD do not always have the long term reliability that was thought a few years back. I'd backup to an external hard drive. If the photos are very important then backup to two external drives and keep one off site.
