How many pics has my camera taken?

Silly question time.

Being fairly new to digital photography I keep seeing people state how many pictures have been taken by their particular camera.

I have a Nikon D5000 and would like to know how to do this.

Can anyone help please?

Upload a photo to flickr, go on ACTIONS and view the exif data, it will be on that page under "shutter releases" or something like that.

Take a photo with your camera and then look at the details on the lcd. That sometimes says a number as the file name. That will be the amount.

The FILE number and the SHUTTER count are NOT necessarily the same - the file number can be reset by the owner!!

As mentioned above, or download a program called oPanda:

http://www.opanda.com/en/iexif/index.html

Once installed, open an image with that software, and it will give you the EXIF info inlcuding the shutter count

The info is in the EXIF data - if you have an EXIF reader that will also tell you.

the file number resets after 9999 usually, and seens as you have a d5000 which is fairly new I doubt you've gone past that many so I'd take a quick shot now and see what the file number is
