I'm sure the OP posted the thread in all innocence. It's no secret where I stand on the pro/amateur divide and the adverse effect it can have on the forum. The thing is Pete that reading back through this thread, you've pushed for this poll from, the start of the thread and I can't help wondering why it's so important to you. Don't tell me you're trying to help the OP get his question answered because if you don't mind me saying so, you're not noted for your generally helpful and courteous attitude around the board. ;)

Who said anything about *VERSUS*?:shake:

Me?

Why the head shake? Pointless debates are annoying, especcially the ones which keep repeating over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over ............

See what I did there? :D

Gary.

A bin man who does 10 weddings a year is a bin man when he is clearing bins and a photographer when he is doing weddings. When he's at a sophisticated dinner soirée and gets asked what he does for a living he has a choice to make; the truthful answer may be "I'm a part time photographer and full time bin man" but he would probably say "I'm a photographer" as he may have more chance of getting laid. If he was a pediatric oncology Surgeon who shot weddings at the weekends, the photography may not be mentioned.

I don't define myself by my profession, so tend to draw discussions away from work.

OK so imagine you are talking to the tax man/lady.

Where do you obtain the majority of what ends up in your bank?

Is it really such a hard question??????????

Mind you if the same tax man/lady wanted to know where all that money went.....Yes, I'm a bloody photographer!!!!! :D

The original post I made was completly inoccent. I'm starting to think I shouldn't have asked. Thanks to all those who have voted in the poll. It confirms we have a broad variety of talent, experience and a very opionative comuunity :p wouldn't be much of a forum without the great people that make it. Let's not take this thread down a negative router, rather just observe what diversity we have.

Really appreciate it:thumbs:

Now you're ignoring the 'black market' of cash deals :shake:

(Are we still allowed to call it the 'Black Market' these days within incurring the pc lobby's wrath  Or should we now adopt the '18% grey market' instead )

And ignoring the time element :shake:

Oh dear :(

Ok I won't.

I'm not so sure, our binman reckons they're all gagging for it on his round. He could be telling porkies I suppose. :D

Unfortunately on this topic people seem to prefer arguing to having a constructive debate ....

I'm not sure your appreciation is fully deserved.:(

Gold :D
I think that sums it up very nicely mate. The 'laid' factor. Enough said.

So where does a retired full time pro fit in the Poll.

Jeez, who put their hand in your knickers without asking?

Play nice in this thread please.

Nobody thanks, and nobody asked. But I am a firm believer in this, if you dish it out, then take it back accordingly. Pete seems unable to do so,so perhaps he should stop being as forthright in his opinions Marcel, without the constant shield he is afforded by some of the admin on here.

so say what you mean, dont sit on the fence. :|

and he doesnt get a sheild from me, as some of the past chats/communications would tell you, but then you wouldnt know that, not all *******ings are dished out in public

I love taking photos, it gives me a huge sense of satisfaction to get a shot I'm happy with. I've been paid for an image once, but I would only ever call myself an amateur. I'm undecided about whether I'd like to go pro (and, to be honest, I'm not really good enough), because I enjoy photography a lot, and I don't know if I'd get the same pleasure out of it if I did it for a living.

Haha you tiddlewallop. They've banned me. What sort of shield is that? If you have to be a spoon and jump in with a personal attack to make a point thats basically pointless, and breaking the rules while doing so, well thats just silly :p I've decided you're no longer pretty.

Tiddlewallop?......WTF is that then..........:)

One of your posts make me smile, must be global warming or summat........;)

Maybe a small pair of shoes? I dunno but I'm definitely going to try to use it more often in conversation :D

Google comes up with...........zero.............must be a Scouse expression.....

Back to the OP's question for a sec

I'm actually quite surprised at the number and ratio of Pro to Ams on here - anyone else think this too?

We're running at about 30% of TP membership as Pros if this poll is to be believed

I'm interpreting the poll at 15.04% full time photographers. :runaway: :D

120 votes out of how many thousand members? Personally I would ignore the results :)

Dependa on the interpretation, if you add the Full time photographers and the part time paid regularly no other job it comes to 20.6%

Statistics statistics statistics

Well I was actually referring to the almost 3:1 ratio of full time Pros to complete Ams - ignoring those in the middle

And then I still got my maths wrong

DD
Thats what comes of counting in f stops
