How much does it cost to have a lens cleaned internally?

Yes
My favourite lens has a couple of of bits of dust inside the front lens and I was wondering what I should expect to pay to have it cleaned/serviced?

None of the dust shows up on any pictures, but it bugs me a little if I'm honest and if it's not too expensive I might have someone look at it!

last time I enquired it was for a 70-200 f4 non IS, IIRCit was well over a £100, will look for the thread on here that I posted.
Mine was the same it had no effect on the image so just left it there it has since changed hands twice and not bothered the owners.

I sent a Sigma 400f5.6 to Sigma imaging last year for a service clean and recalibration and it was only £67 and that was with return next day delivery

Not bad, may consider it with my 500mm Sigma after summer.

The only thing you may find is it will come back with a few compression marks in the rubber where the tools they use to open the lens body are used but they do disapear after a while

I assume you are talking about the 35-105 here. To strip it enough to get to the front elements is quite easy and quick. It takes about 30 minutes and you can get to the front 2 elements and the first lens of the rear group. If you need to go any further than this is gets a bit more complicated. You just have to be careful with the following.

1/ Don't lose the tiny spring under the contact plate.
2/ Don't damage the encoder contacts.
3/ Make sure you mark all the parts.
4/ There is a silver plate opposite the encoder contact, make sure you mark it and the body so it goes back in exactly the same place as it came from. Other wise the focus will not work correctly.

I used this guide to strip one of these lenses. I only paid £12 for the lens so I was not to worried if I wrecked it. You can remove all the screws with a Philips 0 and a small flat head driver.

if it's not affecting the pictures save the money and spend it on a weekend away using the camera, it'll only get some more in there anyway

That's what I was thinking. I've looked on plenty of pictures I've taken including pure white walls and can't see any sign on the dust, however I can see it inside the front element which bugs me a little.

I was hoping to hear something like "1/2 an hours labour by a local camera tech should be about £15" but I don't think that's going to be the case!

I can replace the lens for a mint version for well under £100 so not much point in having it cleaned professionally is there?

Thanks for all the replies peoples!!
