Yes
I'm looking to expand my flash setup, and I'm thinking of getting a 580EX (not the Mk II) to trigger my current 430EX. How much would I be looking at spending do we think? I saw a while ago they were going for about £180, but will they have gone up in price like everything else? Or will they have stayed about the same because there's no longer for sale 'new'? Cheers!

I would say £180-£200.

O.K, thanks a lot! I'll keep my eyes peeled!

I got one for £140 two years ago...a bargain I think! :) I'd go with £180 - £200 nowadays too

Urgh, I'm jealous! I don't reckon I'll be finding anyone selling at that kind of price now! Thanks a lot!

Times like these makes me astonished that this time last year i got a brand new 580ex2 for £200 after cashback from Kerso.

But yeah, £180ish i rekon.

I just got the mk2 and it was best part of £300 I should have got it last year so I guess its snooz you looz lol., I am thinking of getting another mk2 so keep an eye on the for sale section.

Why not look into the 550EX, I used to have one and I thought it was great

It will do your triggering just fine, I think I paid around £120 for it about a year ago so thats perhaps £150 now...?

Just a thought

I paid £170 for an as new one in January, I bought a non worker for £53 at the end of March.. repair bill £110
From that you can say £160 to £180 would be about right.
I bought a brand new sealed box 430EX for £100 in November.
I am now well sorted for canon flash..... it is still a lot of cash for flash.

I was looking into the 580EX for the PC terminal, which although I'm not entirely sure I need now, I might in the future. However I've just realised what a moron I am, as the old 580EX doesn't have one! So I might look into a 550EX! Are there any disadvantages of the 550 over the 580?

Where are you getting these flashes from?! I paid £20 more than that for my used 430EX, and £170 is a great price as well! Please tell me?! :help:

And thanks for everyone elses help on the pricing

I got the 430 ex from clearancebargains.uk on Ebay they sell both new and returned stuff from argos. you need to read the small print if you want new. they cleard out over 20 new ones when the 43EX 11 come in. Though I saw a few more last month.
Both the 580ex's also came from Ebay but private sellers.

If a flash is damaged don't touch it, if is near mint but not working for no reason, it is worth a gamble as repairs are unlikely to exceed £120. It is usually a wireing problem.

There is one on ebay now ends in 6 hours Just over £100 so far
is shown as 580 EX not 580EX will probably go for around £ 175
could be less could be more????
Ends 9pm this evening.

One sold yesterday for £150.

I got one 2 years ago for £100, I had bought a 70-200mm f2.8L of him as well but still!

Hi Chris,
I bought a 550Ex from MPB for about £140, no problems with it and it will trigger slave flashes. As far as I can remember it has a slightly reduced range cf the 580Ex (Gn55 vs Gn58).
I can recommend the 550Ex if you see a good one.
