I feel like an absolute idiot, I bought a Panasonic Lumix TZ65 a few months ago, then the other day I put my hard hat right through the screen :(

The rest of the camera works absolutely perfectly, and you can just about see what's going on, but it's not good! Does anyone know how I could go about getting it fixed? Or should I sell it for spares? I paid I thinki £230 for it (I paid over the odds as I needed it that day so had to use a real shop rather than the internet), so I'd like to get it fixed up as it seems like a bit of a waste otherwise! Any advice would be appreciated!

Does your Home 'contents' insurance cover it. Most do I believe.

I've just had a new light meter through my 'contents' insurance after dropping it in a river while photographing a Kingfisher. I rang them just to ask if I was covered and they said yes. I even told them I was 3 miles from home when I lost it.

Had to pay £50 excess though but still worth a try.

Digital Camera Service - Panasonic UK has a nationwide network of independent service centres which will be able to effect repairs in or out of guarantee. There is one telephone number (below) which will automatically route you to the nearest specialist service centre. 0844 844 3875 We do, however, recommend that you call this number from a domestic telephone line, preferably at your own home. If the product was both sourced and purchased within the EU (as will be denoted by a CE at the end of the serial number), the product will be covered under normal guarantee for twelve months from purchase. If purchased outside of the EU, you may still qualify for repairs under guarantee. In order to qualify, you will need to produce your purchase receipt and Limited Worldwide Warranty paperwork.

Panasonic from my experience charge the earth, I had a video camera that I managed to get a SD card stuck in, after forcibly removing I managed to lose a few pins on the card reader. The cost to repair it far exceeded the price of a new one and as it turned out that my SD card was damaged meaning it was my fault they wouldn't fix under warranty, so £350 for a camcorder that was used for 2 weeks then binned :(
