when it gets dirty, normally one or two quick passes with my sensor brush and its clean. Don't forget its not the sensor you are cleaning it's the AA filter thats sit in front of it.
It depends on what sort of apertures you're shooting as to how much you'll see the need, shoot portraits wide open on fast lenses all day and you'll never see the need.
Shoot landscapes stopped down and you'll see the need much more noticeably.
Once in 4 years, I was always afraid of doing it, but after how painless it was the first time I won't wait until the dust has built up quite as much next time.
