How rainproof?

Has anyone any experience of exactly how waterproof Lowepro rain covers are on their AW bags? Or should I be investing in a waterproof case of some description if I might happen to leave it out in the rain?
 
Got 2 bags with covers and never had any problem. Been out on the hills with them in horrendous weather too!
 
No problem Dave. But why would you leave it out in the rain?
 
It's not intentional, but when fishing things tend to get rained on no matter how hard you try to keep them dry. or they do with me! Either when the rain blows round the umbrella or when walking along the bank. I've always managed with Tupperware type boxes in the past, but I've been taking a bit more photography gear with me of late.
 
Ahh! Gotcha! the thing is, the raincovers are meant to be used when the bag is carried, so one side (back of rucksack/back of pouch/back of shoulderbag) is not covered by the raincover, so you would have to face it into the wind, so to speak. When out carping with my Son, I always take a large, sealable plastic bag with me for the most terrential rain, but you need to take care that you don't get moisture trapped when you seal it.
Must say though that I very seldom have to use the plastic bag, for most situations the LowePro cover is fine!
 
The cover on my bag pulls right round, there's only a bit of a gap at the sides of the top flap where the shoulder strap is attached. I'll get myself a plastic bag in case of heavy downpours. :)
 
I find my bag's cover is very waterproof, just make sure you cover and zip it up the best you can ;).
