Thanks for all your help with choosing a camera. I picked up last night and could have easily passed as new. So hopefully a goood buy.

Just thought i would get a little extra present, so a good book on the subject seems a good idea.

Some kind of How To book.

Some kind of Step by Step guide to introduce the basics of how to take a photos.

Does such a book exist?

Bryan Peterson books are good Understanding Exposure is a good start

+1.. but a hint, this isn't an original question and the answer doesn't change very often.. ;)

Cheers,

I did look back and see Understanding Exposure in a few threads.

But looking for something for the total beginner. While the missus enjoys taking photos. I think she would have little idea what the rule of thirds is, neither i until was researching what camera to get.

So looking for a book that will teach the very basics.

Maybe you missed this thread from a few days ago (still on the first page of Talk Basics).. . ;)

The Digital Photography book 1 by Scott Kelby is very good, practical, simple advice that will get you quick results. Is the other book that will come up together with Understanding Exposure, when people asks.

DSLR for dummise is pretty good I have learned a ton from it, also managed to get one for my camera too.

Tell me what camera you have and I will see if I have the for dummies guide for it.

You might find this book useful http://www.waterstones.com/watersto...+roullard/the+panasonic+lumix+dmc-g2/7975271/ I know it's rather expensive from there but you might be able to get one off ebay or amazon cheaper or you could read it online here http://my.safaribooksonline.com/book/photography/9781933952772

Hope that helps, I have a friend who has a similar book for another camera and he rates it very highly.

I got this book in the end after reading the reading the reviews in amazon. Had a quick flick through it last night.

Will no doubt replace the manual as its wrote in a east to read style.
