How to find your angle?

Just wondering how one composes your scene from low angles without having to lie on the ground.

I've been spoilt with the 60D and its vari-angle screen which is fantastic for composition purposes - but I'm experimenting with a full frame camera with no live view and no vari-angle screen and it seems suddenly very difficult!

I wouldn't mind lying on the ground but sometimes its not appropriate/possible/clean!
 
If I can't laydown I'll set the camera to say Av mode, get it as low as I can and aim it where I think it needs to be aimed, take a look a what I get and adjust if necessary.

Can be..... There was a bell tower on holiday I wanted a low angle shot of but I was in some half decent clothes so I didn't want to lay down.

Whilst standing I gauged the distance I needed to be at 18mm then crouched down with the camera in Av mode and fired a shot.

Think the first shot actually came out OK, I did try again to see if it could be improved but without success :lol:

But yes, in some instance it can be hit an miss.

I've taken other low shots at the beach where I've wanted the lens to be in amoungst the pebbles looking out to the water, due to reflections on the water and bright skys metering can be a problem and it can take a few attempts to get it right but it's not that bad TBH.
