How to get rid of annoying dot between focus points

I was messing around against a white background at home and I noticed this grey dot which is visible in the viewfinder, but doesn't come out on the actual image.

I've tried cleaning the front glass of the lens, as well as the sensor and the bit of the viewfinder where you put your eye so to speak.

Since it doesn't manifest itself on the actual photo taken, it's not a major deal - but now that I know it's there I notice it all the time, and would like to get rid of it.

Anyone have an idea of what it might be, and where it is and how to get rid of it?

It'll be dust on your focusing screen. remove the lens, look up into the camera and the focusing screen is the roof of the interior of the camera you can see. It's most likely to be on the underside where you can carefully get it with an anti static brush or a squirt of compressed air.

It could be on the inside of the screen in which case, the screen needs to come out.

If in any doubt at all just ignore it. Dust in cameras is a fact of life and it's not affecting your pictures.

Cool, thanks for the information!

I'm not worried about it in terms of affecting the image - it's just that now that I know it's there I constantly look at it when I should be looking at other things while composing the shots! :)

LOL. I know. As fast as you get rid of it - you'll sooner or later get more. Worry about it when you really need to clean it.

Wait till you have a bug wandering around in the viewfinder - now that's really distracting.:D

Yeah, now that I know what / where it is I did a bit of read up on it. Seems to be more trouble than it's worth trying to get rid of it; i.e. it usually ends up worse!

I guess I just have to avoid bright backgrounds for a while until I forget it's there! :)

Thanks for the input / help guys, much appreciated!

stupid question- am guessing u have checked you mirror

You'l learn to ignore it, I have atleast :D, my Canon EF has 36 years worth of dust and dirt on the inside of the focussing screen!
