How water proof is the 1Ds classic and the 24-105 F4L... Waterpistol fight this w/end

Simple question really.. I have the 1Ds classic, and the 24-105L and I believe both are weather proof... But just how weather proof?
Reason I ask is this nice weather has led to a few of us tentatively planning a water pistol fight this weekend, and I am thinking there will be some awesome shots to be had.. Will the camera be ok? How much of a spray can it take?

It shouldn't. Make sure you have a filter on the lens as it needs this for the weatherseal. It would be pretty sensible thing to do anyway :-)

What do you mean it shouldn't?

It wont be deliberately put into harms way, but I just know it will get caught in the crossfire occasionally... Especially for some of the shots I want to get.

Nope, but cant really afford for it to be lost.

So when they say its weather sealed, and I see people out in the rain with it... Am I daft thinking a bit of water from a waterpistol shouldnt be bad for it?

Never taken my camera out in bad weather before (other than snow), so really have no idea how weatherproof weatherproof is!

To be honest, they say the same about the 5d2 and I also have the 24-105 and I have been out in the rain with it. The thing is, a water pistil jet may be quite powerful and could drive water into a seam or something, which rain may not do. Just a thought but I guess the way to look at it is - can you afford to risk it?

Maybe a bit of cling film wrapped around the most of it may be an idea, that way you are at least minimising the risk.
 
Think I have answered my own question in part... Looks like the 1Ds classic is NOT described as weather proof by canon...
Not going to risk it, the camera stays at home.

Doesn't sound like you'll be aiming at the camera so I'd go for it!
If you're worried put it in a plastic bag with a hole for the lens and a couple of strips of tape;)
 
i have used my 1d MKIII in the rain with a 16-35II L which i know has a rubber seal for protection and they've both been fine. i am sure the 1D classic will be fine!
just make sure you wipe it straight away and not let it drip dry.

and anyway - i am sure water is safer than what is supposed to come out from that profile pic of yours! ;)

Aren't you a little over-cautious? I doubt a little water-jet can penetrate any seal; it will simply bounce off the outside.
 
Better safe than sorry, and I have never been sure about the weather sealing, and have never taken a camera out in the rain. Canon lists it as a feature on the MKII but not on the classic 1Ds.. Good to see the review lists all the seals and visual inspection of my camera agrees. :-)

I saw one of the Digital Revolution videos reviewing the 100mm L IS macro lens (weathersealed) on a 5DII and he poured a bottle of water over it and the camera with no adverse effects and it was a lot of water!

Scary isn't it? I still worry (needlessly) if I'm out in a few spots of rain. Having seen that Video, I'm impressed. I just won't be recreating that little downpour on my own equipment!
 
Few squirts of water aren't going to cause you any problems

You could either buy an optech rainsleeve or fasion something similar out of a large freezer bag and a couple of rubber bands to help protect the gear.
