No
a mate of mine had his 580 mkii in the case in the boot of his car which got damp when wet towels were thrown onto it soaking the case unnoticed til today (3 days later) where he found the case still wet.

recon its caused any damage?

I would doubt it!

This is my flashgun, its been condensated through the buttons and power button so im not too trusty of this flashgun now, only a month old :/

It's supposed to keep a few splashes of rain out, not dripping wet towels for half a week!

Having said that, if you let it dry thoroughly, like in the airing cupboard overnight, there's a good chance it'll be okay. You'll soon find out.

I would probably still put on a pair of rubber gloves and put the flash on a tripod before powering it up for the first time... Especially at those voltages! ;)

Then assuming it all looked ok and the red light was glaring at me, I'd probably use a stick to push the test button - just in case! :D

it's a plastic case...

it'll be fine, they take far worse than that on a daily basis for many, many professional photographers.

hehe and wear your welly boots.. :D

in all seriousness with those sort of voltages id like to think canon made the casing and buttons shock proof........ (i hold no responsibility for you getting zapped)

:p

Thanks, i'll keep on using it, im not too bothered about the voltages, its only like 10,000volts! ;) I'm just always going to be weary of it until it breaks from either this or my clumsyness

I'd have thought it'd be OK to use it.

It is meant to be a pro grade flash and pros use them in prolonged downpours and don't seem to have any problem with dampness/water ingress

It was a tongue-in-cheek comment! ;)

I have a 580EXII as well but I'd still be a tad wary about powering it up after getting wet... It's a well-cultivated fear of getting zapped that comes from messing with single phase and three phase mains for a living! :D

Mine has certainly survived a few heavy downpours, but the effect of it being in a very damp environment for several days is quite different, and the inside will no doubt be just as damp as the towels were. It need to be dried, ideally for several days, before you test it. Other than that it 'should' be fine.

good good ;)

one hand in your back pocket and it won't arc across your heart, job done

Far worse than just a soaking is then putting it away wet in a closed bag with no air circulation. If your gear gets really soaked, either leave it out of the bags if you can, or at least leave the bags open sufficient for a circulation of air.

The flash should be OK - but I'd let it air out thoroughly at room temp for a few days before switching it on.
