Interesting article on Gizmodo about Flickr's highs and lows, and how Yahoo are effectively killing it.

Here.

Fantastic read so far - bookmarked to finish off later. The section about 'you're part of Yahoo! now' is took true; I hate this in-your-face association with Yahoo! where everything has to go through Yahoo!. I love Flickr, it's by far my favourite social networking tool because puts focussed around imaging and meeting imaging people, but that article certainly reads more like a lamenting epitaph than a description of something that's vibrant, fresh and current.

Is there a big difference between standard and flickr pro?

Massive difference,

Unlimited monthly upload
Larger File Limits
No cap on image numbers
Image Statistics
Download of original files

To name a few benefits of being a pro

Filckr has gone a bit weird on my browser, over size images and the page looks all over the place a bit, very wide. Is this just me or is it looking a bit large for anyone else today? im using firefox

Interesting read. It did come across as a bit of an embittered ex employee having a rant though. I do agree with his review of the flickr phone app, its a disgrace frankly.

i've a flickr pro account and love it to bits. It does exactly what i want it to do.Online photo sharing. I dont want hooks into facebook, or twitter or any of that other junk, i just want somewhere to put my photos where friends and family can see them.

The only improvement i would make to it is with the groups (and to rewrite the phone app of course). We have a camera club at work and have a flickr group for it and its just not really set up for that, board threads etc. So a more flexible group system would be great :)

Flickr pro user here too and I also love it!
Handy having that online image editor, ideal for when you want to make that one quick adjustment you forgot.
I also have a Photobucket account but rarely use it.

I'd imagine so.
Open up any photo, choose 'actions' then see if 'edit in aviary' is near the bottom. If not then it'll be a pro only thing.

I love it, but agree the iPhone app is appalling and they still don't have an iPad app. Incredible!

Even more so because BTinternet users get a free pro account, though I didn't know this and paid for a two year account, but I've since changed my email address for the account to my BT one and now have a free pro for life account :D

It's intentional, they changed the way images display on the photo pages yesterday.
Thread here.

I've only recently started using Flickr always used Photobucket, didn't realise that I had a free pro account with my btinternet.com email address. Started using it and love it.

Never gone pro, never liked it, never like Yahoo.

500px lightyears ahead in almost every way possible.

Another FlickrPro user here and whilst I agree with some parts of the article and that Yahoo could do more with Flickr, the user base/groups/contacts aspect of Flickr is still good for me.

It is a decent price for all that storage, plus the community aspect to me.

Very interesting read. Quite a fascinating period of internet development as well.

Have to say I'm quite a fan of FlickR. For sharing photos online, it still seems king to me. I also like that exif data is readily accessible which I don't think I've seen on any other host yet but no doubt others do it.

I have only just know looked at the group side of flickr as before i just uploaded and few photos. But now that i have camera i am going to be using it alot more and i like the group idea and the price is a good one so what your getting. Pro it is for me them. Thanks for your imput.
