...Do I get back into Photography? I used to be out taking photos every other day, and I'd really enjoy it, but then I went to University, and my photography all but stopped. A combination of the course eating my time, not being in an area I know, or that isn't as aesthetically pleasing as what I'm used to, along with limited transport has been the problem.

However, now I'm back at home, and I just don't know where to begin. I feel like I need to learn all over again, and the weather has been too miserable for decent landscapes recently, so, TP; any ideas?

Sounds like a similar situation to mine.
I stopped for about 15 years or so but recently got the bug back so I picked up a Canon 600D with the 18-55 kit lens and just went shooting things. The fundamentals (ISO, shutter speed etc) came back quicker than I thought but now I have to learn the dark arts of PP on the computer. So far it's been a highly enjoyable experience.

My advice would be to research (and ask on TP) the current crop of DSLR's, find one that suits, buy it and enjoy!

Just realised I wasn't too clear of time period. I started University in September, and haven't taken photos properly for a good 2 months now, so it's not as bad as 15 years. I just feel like I'm not really sure where to get started again?..Probably wouldn't be so bad if the weather was better.

How about going through some of your old shots that did not quite 'work' and going back and shooting them again.

Other than that go through the alphabet and try and shoot things in your local town completing an A-Z.

I must be one of the few that don't use PP for my photos. If I get it right in the camera it comes out how I want. The only PP I do is cropping and resizing. I feel like I'm cheating myself if I take a photo and then make it look totally different by using a computer. If I get a bad shot I'd rather bin it than spend 2 or 3 hours making it look ok.
I'm not against it being used by people, it's just not for me. I tried using PSE9, loaded a file into it and used the autofix to see what adjustments were made and there was practically no changes. If I can get it like that in camera whats the point in altering it. I prefer the natural look to my photos, but thats me and my opinion.

Sheffield has plenty places and things to try even when the weather is grim which it normally is (being brutally honest). Spend a couple of days out ni the peaks, its gonig to a be a warm christmas so im sure there is going to be plenty to capture.

Biggest problem with this is not having a car, but I'll see if my Dad's up for a few days out around there.

. A combination of the course eating my time,

hmmm :suspect: are you sure it wasnt more to do with the sudden availability of cheap beer and a surfeit of single wimmin :naughty:

still (as a semi serious suggestion) , you could see if any of the aforementioned persons of a female persuasion are up for being photographed either innocently fully clothed or sans apparrel - its amazing how an uninteresting landscape can become an interesting background ;)

neither do i but if you time things right there are buses that go out to the main spots. go out in morning with some decent clothing, take a map in case you get lost, some nibble to keep the hunger at bay, mostly just enjoy!

even the 5 mile walk along rivelin valley will get you plenty shots to get you mojo going, you can get a bus to the far end and walk back in to meet up with the tram!

5 miles down rivelin valley? Never! I've done the Rivelin Valley walk many a time in the past 3 years and I'm sure it's not 5 miles. I normally take a tram out to Malin Bridge and walk from there to the start of the River, then along the river until the car park at the top (about a 10 minute walk from the waterfall, near a nice bridge), and then catch a bus back.

If it is a 5 mile walk, I guess I'm fitter than I thought!

Hello.
These places are not bad for going and taking a few pics and all on bus routes.:)

Thanks for the link. I'll be sure to check the museums out again while I'm up :)
