Hi

Will my lens cap fit on the lens if I get a Hoya Pro UV filter added to my 35mm F1.8 lens, or will I have to remove the filter to put the cap on.

Thank you

Chris

Thank you

The standard Nikon cap fits fine over my lens and filter combo.

Thanks Zarch. Which filter did you get and where did you buy it from?

The first point is, why do you want or need a UV filter, and are you aware of the downsides of fitting one? Plenty of threads on this.

If you do get one, make it a good quality multi-coated one - Hoya Pro-1 are very good.

All filters, with very rare exceptions, have a duplicate thread on the front which the lens cap clips in to.

Use of filters to protect a lens, if that's what you want to do, tends to get strong pro and anti feelings expressed. I prefer to use a plain filter, such as the Hoya Pro-1D Protector, which has no effect on colour balance and, to me at least, none on image quality.

One of the best suppliers I've used, taking into account cost and speed of delivery, is Wokingham Photographic which has a dedicated Hoya filter site - link

Thank you all, just want to get them as protection for the lens.

I have seen some Nikon 52mm Neutral Clear Filter, is it worth getting these ones. I just dont want my little one touching the lens when I am trying to take a photo of him.

just remember the pro filters are very thin and only offer protection from fingerprints etc. they break very easily.

I have a Nikon NC filter on mine (lens caps fits on it). To my (amateur) eyes I can't see any difference in IQ with it on or without.

Then get a Hoya HD Protector. It's top of the range and the glass is especially tough, plus it has that clever easy-clean multicoating. Amazon is usually cheapest.

Thank you Richard.

Just ordered the Hoya HD ones for about £62 from Amazon for the 35mm and 18-135mm as the lens came without a hood.
