HP Laptops

I don't use one personally but do support several hundred users some of whom have HP laptops. Build wise they're on par with Dell and Lenovo, which is to say I haven't come across any major issues.

Driver support is good but can't comment on after sales support. We have a next day parts replacement contract with Computacenter.

Not an in-depth summary but hopefully will be some use to you! :)
 
I recently recommended a HP laptop to a friend and although I've only had a short play with it, the overall quality seemed pretty good.
I have an Acer and having dealt with Acer customer support, I'd rather not have to do it again!

For that sort of money however, I'd be looking for something a little more in terms of spec.

the thing is with laptops is the name is a little misleading, put them on your lap and youll most likely block the air vents underneath. if youre using it on a soft surface watch out for that.

if not its likely that over time the vents and heatsinks have clogged up with dust, you could try holding a hoover nossle up to the vents and see if it helps.
 
It's probably not getting a good airflow for cooling, dust and fluff build up over the years to cause this. Does the fan still work? Can you hear it?

Switch it off, take the battery out and use a can of compressed air to clean out all the air intakes and the exhaust fan. If that doesn't work and it's the only fault, you may want to take it into a repair shop so they do a more thorough job.

Thanks to you both for getting back. Thats what I did first. I sucked all i could out of the vents then placed the laptop on its side and kept the hoover sucking air out while it started up. Yes the fan does still work and I ordered a base with fan fitted it to help the airflow.

That seems to have sorted it but I think it still needs replacing. Its done me proud but the HD is only 150 gb and full. I use an external one for my pictures now. I also added memory to its max of 4gb.

The toshiba in one of the links further up this page looks good.
