Hello all here's a good question, I have been given an opportunity to spend a day in a tropical butterfly house with the specific intention of documenting the emergence of a butterfly from it's pupae. Great so far! but now I'm thinking would the humidity of the butterfly house cause any problems to the camera? Obviously I won't be changing lenses inside or opening any battery doors etc but I'm still a bit worried. It's a DSLR by the way. Any thoughts?

I haven't shot in something like a butterfly house, however I spent 5 weeks in Thailand in 98%ish humidity. I found placing the camera and lens in a zip-lock bag with a silica gel in the humid environment. Give it 10-20mins for the camera to acclimatise and you should be good to go :)

thanks Jacob, sorry for my ignorance, do you mean one of those bags you can use for food or does it have to be a proper camera one? also does the camera need to stay in the bag throughout the day?

No just the cheap ones, the medium size ones from tesco are perfect for my D7000 and tamron 17-50 f2.8. No it doesn't have to remain in the bag, just make sure you give it plenty of time to acclimatise.

shot a wedding in Cuba, the camera took 45mins of acclimatisation - basically, you need to take the camera out, put it round you neck minus the lens cap & check it after about 1/2 hour same for all the lenses (keep the rear cap on)

Thats great fellas, youve put my mind at rest now, i will follow that advice. thanks again
