Hypothetical question

Right,

Would I be better to buy a lens from a professional photographer made in 2004 but just serviced this week by canon or a newer lens from a random forumite?

I guess what I'm asking is once an older lens is serviced is it as good as new internally or as near as dam it, or should I be looking at a much newer lens that maybe hasnt had the service by Canon as the asking prices are about the same

I guess you'd know that the older one has a track record - if it's just been serviced, I'd assume that it's been looked after, and if it's still being used, it must be a keeper... I'd want to know what Canon had done to it during the service though...

"It has minor cosmetic scratches on exterior. However, it is just back from Canon with a new IS system and new elements and all cleaned so nearly a new lens (inside). It has 6 month warranty from Canon on elements and IS system too."

So the work it comes with a 6 month warranty... What does the other one come with?

At the end of the day, it's your choice, but I think I know what I'd rather go for...

I havent found the "other one" but the prices would be pretty similar

TBF im 99.9% sure im gonna buy this one, but im new to all this and have never had a Camera/lens serviced

If i relate it to products that I know jewellery/watches its a no brainer, thanks for your reply
