I.7 con not working.

What's a 1.7 con??

Are you sure it's not your lens or have you changed bodies recently , personally I would give ALL the contacts I.e body, lens and t.c a very thorough cleaning ,de-greasing

+1 to this.......apparent miscommunication is often due to poor connection/connectivity.

Try cleaning all the contacts as ready suggested by Jeff there is very little to go wrong with them and if images are dark it could well be a lens fault!
Do you always mount converter first to the body then attach lens ?

What camera are you using this with?
What lens?
What model 1.7 is it?
Have you dropped it?
If you hold this up 'by itself' - no lens or camera attached - can you open the blades ?

Have you connected it in haste and slightly bent the flat connecting pin on the TC that moves the aperture blades.

I did it something similar on a 1.4TC, I separated the TC from the lens and saw that I had forced some lever where it shouldn't go, put it back together with a bit more care and it worked fine.

I had a similar problem with a 1.7 TC when at Bempton I left it on the body and changed lenses ( trying to keep dust out ) it had slightly bent the aperture prong. Managed to sort it and since then I always put the TC on the lens and then onto the body.

Hope you get it sorted Mark.

Mark might be worth checking the lever on the back of the lens as well.
thanks both, that's what it was, all working fine now...cheers.
