Up until a month ago my IX4000 was ok, it still is colour wise, perfect, but, it has started printing "sepia" black and white, as the Ink is Canon ChromaLife it cant be the ink, I have re installed the drivers, so now I am lost.

Help with suggestions please.

Not much good if you are entering a MONO comp.

Glad I could help.

Yeah I have an IX4000 aswell with a CityinkExpresss CISS hooked up. Works flawlessly for me and very cheap to run. I have never used the in printer settings before though, I just knew that they were there.

Glad its sorted though, dont worry, ive done worse.

Colour rendition is good, especially considering the price. My only complaint would be the blacks could have a bit more clarity. The are perfectly acceptable and as you would expect from a single dye ink black printer but better colour rendition will obviously be had by superior printers with multiple/pigment blacks. It is only on shots like this that a small amount of detail in the blacks are lost.

I have also found the CISS i have installed to be of almost identical quality to the genuine Canon inks. The longevity obviously cannot be fully tested but there is no noticeable difference to my eye. Id certainly recommend as an entry into A3 printers but would warn about both the size and the noise of the printer. Its both large and operates at quite a high noise level - neither is an issue for me but may be for some.

I would also add it is an old printer now, there must be newer examples for a comparable price.

People wrongly assume that 9 or more give better prints, that is only correct under testing in reality you would be hard pushed to tell the difference, my prints, even with 7 day shop ink are extremely good.

I could buy a new printer tomorrow, cash, why, no reason at all.

thinking of getting a A3 printer just wondered whats the quality like on this range of printers ! Plus the new model seems to have a extra black aswell ,so hopefully it will print better blacks ?

Lets forget the lab tests and the twenty plus printers all set up in a photographic mags back room.

Go to any camera club and there will be people there with the most basic A4 printer to the most sophisticated A3+, YOU look at them all and tell me the difference.

I was the first this year to enter A3+, people were more taken back by the size than anything else, though as the judge said, "sharp, perfect colour and the texture is very good".

My Canon IX4000 was chosen by me because the only difference at the time the IX5000 had was one more PPM.

I will put any mono print in a comp with any from any other printer and as long as it is calibrated and with half decent ink.......

Oh, my inks are from 7day shop and papee from Labelheaven, I have just bought some great 200gsm pearl for £19 for 100 sheets inc delivery, and my A3+ gloss 300gsm is £25 for 100 sheets..

TBH, I'm hard pressed to tell the difference between prints from my 4 ink ix4000 and the 6 ink s820. So much so that the s820 has been semi retired to free up some desk space for a small laser printer which is used purely for text documents.
