This one was crossing the road at the Tropic of Capricorn earlier this year, but we saw quite a few out and about in Namibia.

Dave and TBabe, I think you have it!! It certainly looks like and Armoured Cricket to me.
I forgot to mention, that they don't just come in one colour, they seem to be totally random colours, I also saw all brown like the one in the link, and very bright green, and yellow. I have a few others I will post later,
