I dropped my Tokina wide angle

I managed to damage my lens. I put it in my backpack but did not zip it up.... Doh. So when I threw it on my back the lens went crashing to the pavement with a clunk. I know it's a solid lump but it still takes photos. However when I rotate the lens from 24mm is shrinks until about 17 mm and from that point the lens starts to protrude again.

Is this a normal action.
In my haste due to holiday in Scotland I bought another wide angle. Should I send it away for repair. I took some nice photos on Saturday which I'm happy to upload I want to sell the

Most non internal focus zoom lenses do that, I think its normal.
