I finally found an immaculate Nikon 600m f4 at Mifsuds, for a sensible price.
I've been considering this lens for a very long time. It should arrive on Tuesday. Looking forward to getting some use out of it.
Fingers crossed, it's a nice example and will be trouble free. :)

Nice one Kev, well done. I've just viewed images of this lens......wOOOw. Is it to be used for birds/wild life shots...?

Looking forward to your captures.

I recently sold my 500f4.I regreted it and decided to get the 600. Hopefully it will be as good.

Yes but I know an 800mm would be a non-starter :D

I considered this. But my thoughts where, I can have the 600mm f4 for almost half the price, use the 1.4 and end up with the 800mm 5.6. That way I don't restrict myself to 800mm only.

I'm just about sorted now for lenses. I'm hoping this one will go nicely with my D5, when it comes. Can't see why not.

I'll bet there is some discount to be had on that 800mm gramps.... ;)

Wxactly, with a TC and the D7200 I'm over 1200mm and with the D810 I'm up to 850mm, which is fine for me. :)

Perfect. Another reason why I am likely to get the D500 for my second body. Sold my D300 ages ago. Been waiting.....

Yes the D500 sounds very tempting, just wonder if Nikon have finally got their QC issues sorted yet, what with exif errors on a whole string of official sample images and on-going software updates.

I much prefer the 600f4 + tc option to get to 800mm rather than being stuck at 800f5.6 .

It's lighter than I expected. So that's good
Lighter than expected? Not sure what you expected. It feels only a smudge heavier than my 400mm 2.8 but well balanced. Still considering selling my 400mm 2,8 and 600mm for one of the new 400's or 500's.

I've got the 200-400mm. I've had the 500mm and admit, I did expect this to be heavier. I had read so many comments about it not being hand holdable, I suppose I just had convinced myself it would be. I agree, it is very well balanced.
I know someone who is looking for a 600mm, if you decide to sell.

I'd like to see it with a camera on the end to give a sense of scale!

Good for you! I have a Nikkor 600mm AIS that I was gifted for my 14th.. Nearly 10 years on, it's happy kicking and I've got some awesome shots with it. Pair it with my D2X and it's a pretty sweet combo!

The anticipation...... No wonder you couldn't wait to take a pic of it.

I think I'd try using it on the camera ;)

Wonderful lens though, I'm not at all jealous!!
