As the title says, I was going to bed this morning and noticed the Moon looked quite nice in the blue morning sky, so I go my camera and tripod out. Because I normally shoot the Moon against a black sky I was checking the Histogram a bit more than usual. While I was looking at the Histogram, which shows a smaller image preview, I hit the zoom and was extremely surprised to find that as the image zoomed in, the Histogram redrew. :eek: It seems like it was adjusting itself to the preview image which I didn't know it could do, and will come in really useful.

I had certainly never noticed or seen it mentioned anywhere before. :shrug:

I'd exposed the Moon correctly once I'd zoomed in btw, ;) but it was so easy to see as the Histogram redrew.

It's nice when you find something your camera can do after 2 years of ownership .:D

I will be able to have a look at other cameras in work later this week to see if it is the same on some other camera. I'd never thought of zooming in whilst on the Histogram page, so it was quite a surprise. :eek: A great idea though, and hopefully it works the same on all cameras.

My D90 doesn't do this.

Even though I never knew it didn't, it is now obviously time for an upgrade. I loved my D90 until I read this, now it is obsolete old rubbish :-)
 
The live histogram just reflects the light the lens gathers so will change until you press the shutter at which point its fixed.
 
If the OP is talking about the RGB histogram view, then they do redraw on the D90 when you zoom.

If it's the single histogram then it doesn't, because the preview goes to full screen when you zoom and the histogram disappears.
