I have a load of scratches on my CPL... is it going to effect IQ?

Hey all

I bought a hoya pro 77mm CPL a few weeks ago. It cost a fair whack - £65.

So anyway, I've just had a look at it under the light and the thing is covered in scratches.... which is kind of annoying seeing as I cleaned it with either end of a lenspen exclusively.

So what I want to know is, will the scratches/removal of coating effect the output?

I'm hoping not, otherwise that's the last time I spend more than £15 on a CPL!

I assume you shoot digital and if you do trying it out is pretty much free, so give it a go.

IQ will not be affected much - but the scratches may introduce more flare.

You would reduce the IQ more by spending £15 on a CPL...

I don't know the answer to your question, but it proves my argument that if one spends a lot of money on a multi-coated polariser, one will find that the coating is very easily scratched.

You could try the filter in various situations and see how the IQ is affected. I agree about the likelihood of flare being a problem.

If you bought it on ebay is there a possibility of return?
