So i have my 2 main bodies for work, which are great but i do a lot of cycling and getting out and about and its not practical to take the DSLR (It wont fit in my bloody tiny lycra pockets!!! :D

So i'm looking for a well priced handheld that is very capable of taking some tops shots...especially action....

I'm in the dark with this area of equipment....

Anybody in the same position or have any suggestions?

arent all camera's hand held?? :lol:

do you mean a compact / Bridge

The Sony DSC-HX50 and its a fantastic little camera, great images, not on par with a dslr and a good lens but still great and one feature I think is totally awesome and well achieved on the camera is the fantastic panorama shot, very cool and very useful on holiday.

Highly rated from me and I usually hate compacts, its nice and weighty for a small camera and feels solid too.

Not the cheapest at around £300- £350 but a very good all round compact.
 
As much as I am a massive Sony fan, I have to agree with the G15, its an amazing camera.

But the Sony in-camera panorama shot is great, my A77 has it
 
Hi,

Just come back from Italy and took the G15 with me instead of the SLR.

Really pleased with Images that are shown from this Wedding, I was not a Guest. The Wedding was at a Church in the Public Square, all were shot fast and with limited View of Bride and Groom.

Would Recommend this Camera for Size, Build, Portability, and of course the Images it Produces.

If you want genuine pocket sized for your Lycra and you still want to carry you cycling goodies then I'd say your options are limited to the canon s100 of the Sony rx100 as both are great quality and truly pocket sized. If money allows get the Sony.
 
To add to the pair above, try the Fuji XF-1. It fits in a shirt top pocket (with ease) and gives good prints SOOC up to A3. The X-20 isn't quite as pocketable but gives similar results (as does the X-10).

Micro four thirds. Early models are cheap as chips to try the system out. Later models just get even better as the price increases. Wont fit in your budgie smugglers but no bigger or heavier than a can of health drink and FAR more adaptable, controllable and responsive than any compact or bridge camera.
 
I stand by Nikon for DSLR's but had a cool pix S series and was highly disappointed with it!!

Upgraded to a Sony DSC-HX series and what a difference!! Best pocket camera available IMO ill double check exactly what model it is tonight but I'm well impressed
 
I had exactly this issue in that if I go anywhere much interesting it's on my motorbike most times and carrying a 5Dii is usually more trouble than it's worth as it really requires a backpack since I don't have a topbox or panniers. (it's a trail bike)
Canon S100 is smaller than a pack of cards and will hit in a jacket pocket or bumbag type bag with room for a phone too.
The only problem is how little the 5D has been used this year, because the S100 is almost as good for 90% of things you are taking pictures of.
