I have treated myself to to a Panasonic FZ100 thanks to Allanm on here. I bought it for the size & also the superzoom 600mm equivalent. My thinking is we can use use it when away & stops us having to lug lenses etc around.

Does anyone have one, any comments? Have read the reviews but am far more interested in actual users thoughts

Hi john, Ive not got a FZ100 but looking at the spec and a couple of short reviews it looks like a great piece of kit! I have a Fz18 which my girlfriend uses. I always found the 18 good for a (almost pocket option) as you say rather than carrying all the lenses around.
The 600mm superzoom, f/2.8-f/5.2 does make me wonder about the cupboard full of glass and bodies ;-) I have, would love to hear your thoughts when you get it.
 
Hi Al, already have it & just charged the battery so will try to have a play later. Had an FZ10 before the DSLR & loved it so will be interested as to how good the zoom etc is.
 
Looking forward to seeing the pics from it :) I have also looked at the FZ100 as a potential replacement for my well used and well loved FZ50. Seems a handy thing to have when you don't want to lug around a dslr but you don't want to miss out on potentially good photos either.

If someone made a low iso noise bridge then I think dslr use would fall... especially if it was f.2.8 even at 400mm for example.

If they did make one, use of dslrs would fall, your exactly right. So would sales of £4k lenses £500 gimbal heads £200 tripods :lol:
 
I don't think the high end sales would fall. It's the budget dslrs that would be less attractive. If a bridge offered all the shooting capability of a dslr with the one lens compared to having several I think it would be appealing to a lot of consumers, especially those with smaller budgets.
 
Hmmm, this is going to be interesting!

The camera is far smaller than I am used to & its feels "different" in my right hand. Your fingers have to curl around more tightly to grasp it somehow.

The elctronic view finder is also going to take some getting used to as will the motorised zoom however I do not believe that they are necessarily detrimental to the camera & its target market.

I was using it outside on AF & the shutter speed appeared to variable when the light was fairly constant so had to mess around with iso settings a lot.

The screen is turned on by a toggle switch for the evf & screen & it was a pain putting the camera to the eye only to remember that I had been using the screen so had to change over prior to shooting.

All in all there is a lot to this camera & I am struggling because I have not looked at the instructions yet!

I agree that it will sit well against the budget dslrs providing it performs in low light. Price wise it sits around the cost of a budget body so will appeal to those looking for an allrounder.

I been thinking about one of these for a while, esp since I already have an earlier FZ, but wondered what made you go for this one over the Nikon Coolpix P100.

Also pretty highly regarded.

Yep. We're all guilty of that one.

I actually have an FZ3 and wanting to move up but don't feel a DSLR is for me so I want a compromise.

FZ45, FZ100, P100?

Getting fed up reading up on them all.:)
