It's come back again. The urge to buy a lens. It's been a while.

Currently I have.

24-105 F4L.
Sigma 50mm 1.4, not the art model
135 F2
Tokina 12-24 F4
100mm macro.

I have some longer stuff too but I'm not looking in that area.

I shoot the occasional wedding or event, but not too many.

So what to buy.

35mm 1.4. Getting a little long in the tooth now? Well respected though I think? I don't often shoot at this focal length so only really good for group shots for me. Although it might make me go wider if I owned one.

50mm 1.2. Is it worth the premium over the sigma art version?

85mm 1.2 I have a hankering, but how much would I use it.

24-70 2.8 mk2 how good are these compared to a 24-105?

Anything else of similar quality out there? No canon 24-105 2.8 out there else I would have one like a shot


Any of you got any or all of these. What would you buy?

I know it's hard to answer as you're not in my head, but hypothetically speaking which do you / would you prefer?
 
A Sigma 85mm f1.4 to go with your 50mm? Maybe a 28 or 35mm, Sigma Art?
 
The Sigma Art 24-105 is a good shout. It has the same aperture as the canon but in my opinion the images are way sharper. It is heavy though.
 
Any of the Sigma ART lenses are bitingly sharp if that is a requisite. They double the weight of your camera though, similar to a fixed aperture mid zoom!
A 50 1.2 is good to show off to folks with 1.4s, until you speak to people with F1s and their buddies with their 0.95's ;-) Beyond a p***ing contest I personally never really noticed the difference in DOF and shutter speed. I just noticed the weight gain on a like for like comparison!
 
I'd first consider which is your favourite/most used focal length in the range of lenses you listed.
 
The 50mm 1.2 IMO isnt different to the 50mm 1.4 ;-)
 
I'm not bothered about the weight of the lens. I pretty much use my 70-200 as a walk about, so most stuff will be lighter.

Good question ref what focal length I shoot most. I don't do a lot of wide stuff and usually crop in, so longer is the norm.

That said periodically I take myself on a 50mm day, where that is the only lens I have with me and really enjoy myself.

The 24-105 art sound an interesting lens, I didn't know they did one. Anyone else got one, or tried one?

Sigma art 35 you say Phil. You got one, like it?
 
I have had the 35 as well and it is the sharpest lens I have owned. We're are you based your welcome to try my 24-105 if nearby
