It is near time that I am going to get my Cannon 28-70 F2.8 but I just found out that they came out with a new Lens 17-55 F2.8 IS which One?I have 16-35F2.8.I bought these lenses for film Camera. Now this has changed with Digital.(Focal Length)The 28-70 has great reviews but the 17-55 has not been review yet.I am replacing my 28-135. Also Should I upgrade my 350RebelXT(350D) to 20D? Thanks for the Feedback Sean

Do you mean 24-70 (the 28-70 is the older one), personally Id go for the 24-70 f2,8, its got better grade glass and is I believe weather sealed (at least on a weather sealed body), also it will work on full or cropped body's - so no compatibility issues. Also gives alot more reach.

Also you already have a 16-35 f2.8 L which will be better and wider than the new 17-55. The only thing lacking is IS, but at that focal length you should be able to get pretty steady at low shutter speeds anyhow with some practice.

The Canon 17-55 F2.8 IS will no doubt be great optically with good build but the only use I can see for it is indoor shows and architecture in low light (hand held)
It's too short as a walk about lens for which you tend not to need F2.8 or IS and it's too short for portrait/wedding photography.

Gor for the 24-70 L F2.8
