Yes
Did a bit of work for a guy the other day and he paid me in equipment. It's a Nodal Ninja 3 for doing panoramas!

I'm up tomorrow before sunrise to take it out into the Dales and give it a whirl.

Ah. No I'm not up tomorrow. The weather is going to be arse.

stupid question but hows this fit to the cam ? have you got any pics of hows it sits :whistling:

By the looks of it, the camera screws on the same as a tripod, but on it's side at the top.

I think it is used similar to a spirit level / compass. It helps keep horizons straight and helps for making panorama's and for overlaying photos, etc.

stupider question, what does it do when its on there?

It rotates the camera around the front of the lens as opposed to around the middle of the camera. This means when you're making panorama shots and stitching images together, you don't get any distortion, which is what you'd get otherwise. :)

Not quite.

It rotates the camera around the nodal point of the lens, not around the front of the lens.

It doesn't prevent distortion, but it does prevent parallax problems.

Nice kit :) Are panoramas that difficult? Main problem I have is finding a really good landscape.

The rest is easy

Landscape panoramas are easy. There's no parallax issue to worry about, so you don't need one of these. Heck, you don't even need a tripod.

HOWEVER, if you have a panorama where there are objects close to you, then parallax is a real issue and a panoramic tripod head is a must.

(Also, using a tripod can be handy to help ensure you get uniform coverage of your subject, which I manifestly failed to do in the third of the examples shown here!)

It's also handy for doing 360 spherical (VR) shots.

The NN is a great bit of kit, the secret is to get your nodal point set up correctly.

That last shot - Lake Louise in Alberta? Or is it Moraine Lake?

Not quite.

Oh and thanks for clearing that up :)
