Hi to all, My son in Melbourne is considering to purchase. An I mac 27 inch core with i7 processor, all a bit new. Has anybody any comments on this release ? Thank You Bob W
 
Have a look at the price difference between the i5 and the i7. I went for the i5 as I didn't think speed increase was worth the price difference..

Been running mine now for just under 2 months and no real problems. The screen can be a bit bright straight out of the box, but there is a brightness control in system prefs now to turn it down.

iMac, especially the 27" have had a couple of reported problems. One is screen flicker, not had that myself, but Apple have just released a software upgrade to fix it. The other problem is a yellow colouration to the bottom corner of the screen. Doesn't seem to effect everyone. It's there on mine but it's so minor and well out of the way it's not a problem.I've seen worse on more expensive monitors

Overall it's a good machine.

With regard to your brightness issues do a search for little app called screenshade this is a good way to reduce your over all brightness. I use it on 24" and works a treat.

Thanks, but the new iMacs and MBP allow you to drop the brightness using either the keyboard ( a bit course) or there is a slider in the System Pref, in the monitor option. Dead easy. About 50% is fine.

Also Screenshade does cause some problems with some screen calibration software. But thanks for the info
 
I have the i7 and extremely happy. The i7 unlike the i5 is hyper threading which if your not using all the power on the processors boost the speed. Not had any problems myself except had to switch on the 64bit & couldnt read/write NTFS drives as my old software didnt work but quick search on the net found its built in Snow Leopard and wrote a small text file in terminal and sorted the problem.

I also use screen shade with again no problems
