Yes
:'( oops there I go..

Just been in contact with scan and they have told me the faulty motherboard I sent back to be replaced due to a network problem with the board has a bent pin! therefore the warranty is void....:(

They now have to send it back to gigabyte to be fixed! Which can take anything up to a month...:bang:

Matt

On the processor slot! Even though I was extra careful installing it and checked it before sending!! but alas no proof!

On the Intel i7 the pins are on the board!

Sorry my mistake! Should have known, I have an i7 as well... :bonk:

Don't suppose you added "Scansure" at time of order? It's suppose to cover accidental damage during installation of hardware.

No I didn't as I purchased the parts over a two 1/2 month period and the insurance only lasts for a couple of weeks from purchase so would of been void by the time I built it anyway...:bang:

on the LGA775 socket upwards i think the pins were in the motherboard..

youre doing well to bend one of those to be honest

As I thought when they e-mailed me!! but I have no proof it wasn't damaged when I sent it off so no leg to stand on!

Stand your ground, they cannot prove it wasnt them and you cannot prove it wasnt you so either they offer a goodwill gesture and replace at no cost or you fight and agree a compromise, maybe a 50/50 split. At least that way you dont suffer the full cost yourself when you are sure you never damaged it.

I had a similar problem couple of years ago, Fitting a processor heatsink onto the mobo my screwdriver slipped and i knocked the top of a resistor or something, I contacted ASUS the manufacturer and they fixed it for the grand some of £25 inc postage back to me. I had to pay postage to Holland though.
Just to say it might not be as bad as it seems, apart from not having your PC.

cheers guys.. Been in contact with them and got them to straighten the pin, then test to see if still faulty! They did and it was but they are now saying it could of been caused by the bent pin.. They have now sent it back to gigabyte, not sure why?, and told me they will contact me when the issue is resolved.. I'm not a happy chappie.

If it's an i7 motherboard wasn't there a plastic socket cover supplied with the motherboard?

Most manufacturers are quite specific, if the motherboard is transported without the cover in place then the warranties void. The pins on socket 775 and i7 motherboards can be bent very easily in transit. I speak from experience!

yep the plastic cover was in place...
