Pentax forum has pics of a guy taking his K20D into the shower to was mud off it.
Not something I do or anything like it.
 
Too much money to get a damp sponge to it let alone that!! Scary!

It's rainproof - and he briefly placed it under a running tap. It's not as though he immersed it in water which was what I was expecting from the comments.
 
I recon mine has been as wet as that in outdoor use and for a lot longer time too.

I think my 40d has been, it got soaked at Donnington. I know another guys 50d gave up that day.

I would say both my 40D and 350D have been as wet as that in rain before. Interestingly my 350D stands up to rain much better than my 40D :(
 
My 40d has been wetter than that although I was 'caught out' in a storm. It was fine so I'm sure that camera would be. That said - I wouldn't be sad enough to run it under the tap for the purpose of showing off a camera.

By the sound of things they can take it!
I was under the impression that they are weather sealed - ie can handle rain splashes but not constantly exposed to water?

A running tap is a lot different from even the hardest rain! A constant stream of water has a much higher chance of breaching a seal that individual droplets.

Basically he's another idiot who's misread "weather proofed" as "water proof" and assumes he can chuck as much water at it as he likes. It's a wonder he didn't try submerging it in the bath :cuckoo:
 
I must admit that I wouldn't do it with mine either. But I suspect it's more to do with the pressure of water than anything else. I notice the tap wasn't blasting water out like a high pressure hosepipe.
 
The 7d movie that was put out before original release showed it being showered down. That is not meant to be as water-resistant as the 1d. I wouldn't worry too much about this. It isn't as if it is being submerged.
 
My D3 and 70-200 have been soaked on a couple of occasions, one of which was being caught in a MASSIVE downpour on a airboat in the Everglades. I wouldn't soak them like that every day but they can certainly handle more than you'd imagine.
 
I'm sure that i read on here sometime ago, that someone actually dropped there D3 or Mk1 into a river and witout any ill effect.

Not something i would want to do, but don't think it will have caused any damage.

I read on POTN that one pro had dunked his in the river a couple of times when shooting.
 
I remember reading that the 1D series are weatherproof up to equivalent of 7-8inches per hour (in rain terms I guess) which is a fair old amount!!
 
There was an infamous D3 video posted on YouTube just after launch that showed a guy pouring apple sauce, cereal etc over the camera and then washing it off with a jug of water and then dropping it from a 1m height. I believe it turned out to be a promo video for the camera. Perhaps this is too?
 
If he used it more he would not have to wash the dust off it:lol:

Seriously though if the camera gets dirty surly its easier to like said before a damp sponge or cloth to wipe away dirt, not trying to hose it off???:nuts:

My daughter fell in a river with a 1D, which came out fine when I picked it up.
Lens (50mm) was not so good, though.

agreed, mine have been drenched far worse that that and never missed a beat
 
I have to say I've seen a 1DSMK2 standing out on a tripod all day in torrential rain - and I mean torrential, getting a lot wetter than that so I don't think there was any danger from running it under a low pressure tap. Whether I'd have done that though - I doubt it! :D

I'd agree that using the camera in heavy rain for a long time would be a lot worse than putting it under the tap for a few seconds, but still I wouldn't try it. Wish I had his money to burn...
 
The key to remember is the water was not under pressure... ie not from a jet wash or deep water where the pressure is higher, under normal conditions that is nothing.

i agree, its water under pressure thats the killer....thats a hell of a leap of faith though...

I buggered the buttons on my battery grip after they got swapped with mud, so using this thread as inspiration I lobbed it under a stream of water... hey presto the buttons work again.

I suppose you're right. When anything is under pressure it's more likely to make mistakes, can't blame them too much though. ;)

Gotta admit I wouldn't dare to do it myself (even if I had weather-proof gear).
 
The pentax K20d has that many weather seals you can use it as a life jacket.:D:D:D:D:D

When my 300 F4 fell in the stream I could actually see plankton swimming around in it :D
