ID please ?lesser whitethroat

found this one in my collection. it's from my late summer trip to Dungeness. hefty crop, using 7D + 300mm f/2.8 + 2X extender. is it lesser whitethroat?

Cant say for sure being as Im a bit of a dude, but Id say, yes it is.

Not a bird I know or have encountered, but looking at my books I'd say there a fairly good chance of it being the lesser variety. The lack of a complete and distinct eye ring being my rationale here. That said, it would be more difinitive if we could see the back. Could you not have asked it to turn round for a shot.

I think one of the people you need here is having a wee rest from the forum for a few days.......

Dark legs suggests Lesser Whitethroat, I think Whitethroats have brownish legs
Its general shape and colour also looks like lesser, along with lack of prominent eye-ring as mentioned

The overall grey tones on the back and the lack of any peachy colour on the chest make it look good for Lesser for me

No I couldnt either, wold have saved it if I could. Zooming in with the scroll wheel kind of worked though, to see the text.

thanks Sandra. It was really hard to even sneak nearby this chap hence the crop. very difficult bird indeed.
