ID this bug please

Apologies for the shoddy iPhone pic but I turned over a tree stump this afternoon and found this staring at me

It's probably about 3/4" wide and between 11/2" and 2" long, this is a little tricky as it's buried itself back in amongst the tree roots again.

So a good thing then? It's the biggest larva I've seen outside of I'm a celebrity

I've seen a few larvae in my life, most on Bear Grylls, sadly he doesn't spend too much time looking at them before digging in..
