I have just acquired a set of ND filters,2, 4,and 8 plus a grad, I have never used them before, although I know you can get nice effects with running/moving water, and the grad can be used to prevent the sky being blown, what other uses can I put them to ?.

I would also appreciate any tips on how to use them with the running water and shoreline shots.

Thanks in advance:)

Other uses....

Go and find yourself a nice picturesque bit of railway line and blurr a train from end to end through your frame (not forgetting to cover the viewfinder if you've got bright sun behind you)

I guess the best way to use the solid ND's is to compose and meter for the scene, manually adjust the exposure up by the appropriate amount of stops, and then put the ND's in place. Assuming you metered for the scene correctly in the first place, and adjusted the exposure properly, then with the ND's in place the scene should still be exposed properly, except now with the water motion captured as you expect.

The camera will still meter with an ND in place, but to get the most accurate exposure, it's best to meter without it in place and compensate for when it is in place.

Thanks for that Woody:thumbs:.
