IE crashed what next

Ok im having to use windows today and internet explorer just crashed on me. CLosing it does nothing, and when I go to the task manager and do a force close it doesn't close it down.

Also tried closing iEXPLORE.EXE in the processes menu.

How can I close it down without having to restart the whole machine .... help please!

i'm on windows XP by the way

I just opened the dos command and typed in taskkill/im IEXPLORE.EXE

and it said SUCCESS: the process "IEXPLORE.EXE with PID 3316 has been terminated.

but it is still there

see it knows youre an apple user..

are you viewing all processes for all users? is there more than 1 iexplore process, generally newer versions of IE have 1 process per tab.

yes the process from all users box is ticked

there is only one IEXPLORE.EXE and it doesn't dissapear when I say end task

for the record I think that it is the silverlight plugin that has crashed inside of the internet explorer window

are you logged in as a restricted user?

thats handy, silverlight doesnt have its own process as such.. are any other tasks using a lot of cpu time like svchost?

nothing was taking up cpu, and i was logged in as admin.

i restarted as i got annoyed, but its happened twice now as the silverlight app seems to have a bug ad thats what im trying to identify so it might happen again very soon

do you NEED silverlight for what youre doing? just disable the addon if not.

yes the app that i am using is in silverlight

and everything is up to date? both IE and SL? might be worth downloading SL from the MS download pages and reinstalling if its got damaged in some way.

I have found the bug - trying to record something when there isnt a microphone connected makes the app crash.

Just frustrating I have to completely restart the computer once it has crashed.
